Anyone Name Their Cars?

I’m finally taking my car to the body shop to get her bumper replaced Tuesday. She’ll be in there for at least two weeks. I was wondering what kind of tank they’re going to give me at the car rental place, and I was thinking about my car’s name. She was given this name on the day. I drove her off the lot. It didn’t come to me immediately, I had to study her and drive her to know that she is a refined vehicle that sits high and proud and has a smooth ride that purrs. Her name is Victoria and her nickname is Koko. Yes, she has a nickname. I only use her full name when she is driving sluggishly and I need her to get the lead out (ha!).

Some of you might think I’m strange, but yes, I routinely name my cars. My car before this one was a black Mazda2, and her name was Buttercup. She was a spitfire. She liked to race sport cars, and win. She liked to take turns real tight, almost obnoxiously so. She was afraid of no one. She wasn’t named after the weed known as buttercup, she was named after the toughest Power Puff Girl. I still miss that car.

My naming of cars goes back to my mother who started the habit. She named her first car Happy. She had many cars over the years, and I can remember a few of their names.

The raspberry red Dodge something-or-other was named Bob, i.e. Bucket of Bolts. Bob didn’t have a long life with Mom. He was a lemon, despite his beautiful raspberry color. Her Toyota Echo was named Sassy, and her final car, a Toyota Corolla, was named Darwin.

Does anyone else name their cars? If you do, let me know their names in the comments!

  1. I’ve had two cats but I didn’t name the first one. The second one was called Esmeralda, though. I don’t have that car any longer. It was on a lease.

Cute names, though for your cars!

      1. So true. We only used ours for shopping and going to visit family every 6 weeks or so. Not worth it! But me and the roommate hate that it’s super-expensive today to lease a car in Sweden. We absolutely would again if the prices went down. They were subsidized for years (EV) but the new government removed it.

      2. Because they’re idiots 😂. This is the most stupid government we’ve had in years.

Like Trump but with smart idiots.

The climate senator or whatever they’re called in English thinks EV’s don’t matter and instead of helping the climate, they’re removing good choices and adding severely bad ones that promote climate change.

      1. For some reason, your response reminded me of the original Top Gear series. I don’t know if you’re familiar with the show, but there was an episode with campervans, which was one of many that I found hilarious.

      2. You’re welcome, Chris. I wish I could watch the full episodes again, but I don’t have access to them. I don’t know if you remember the ambulance episode, but that one had me and my mother crying laughing.

      1. 😂 that’s hilarious. I guess it depends on the make and model of the car? I know my mom had male and female names for hers. I’ve had all female names for mine. And I haven’t named every car. I guess if I had a huge SUV or something I’d probably name it Junior? 🤣 Other than that, I think I will always use female names.

  2. I don’t have names for my cars, but we named our Roombas “Fifi” and “Gloria”. By the way, “I only use her full name when she is driving sluggishly and I need her to get the lead out (ha!).” Hilarious! 🤣

  3. For some reason, even though I’m big-time into cars, Ive rarely named them.
    .
My Miata is called ‘number sixteen’ because od the racing number on its door.
    .
My next door neighbor calls my old Subaru the ‘Green Hornet’ because of its colour. Not very creative!

      1. Well, I guess some of the cars in the family fleet had names over the years. But they were just silly things the kids came up with. I had a small Chevrolet truck and my son called it the “Heavy Chevy” even though it wasn’t very big at all…I guess it was big to a six-year-old.
        .
My son’s Subaru is now called “The Bugeye” but that’s a common name for that year / make / model. Still counts, ’cause it looks like a bug. Here she is….

  4. An Audi estate – bought new in the early eighties – named him Larry – never named a car before or since – Larry was from the sixties – he was German – Larry was the name he used because he mixed with a lot of Americans – lived in Berlin – made money doing something shady both sides of the wall –

  5. Every car in my family has names. We have Charlotte (A Porsche that was burned “charred” in a house fire) , Carmen (Sandiago, a Blood Red Jaguar), Xena (The Warrior Princess, a Volvo Wagon), Elizabeth (After the Queen, a white Land Rover)
    It’s always fun
