I’m finally taking my car to the body shop to get her bumper replaced Tuesday. She’ll be in there for at least two weeks. I was wondering what kind of tank they’re going to give me at the car rental place, and I was thinking about my car’s name. She was given this name on the day. I drove her off the lot. It didn’t come to me immediately, I had to study her and drive her to know that she is a refined vehicle that sits high and proud and has a smooth ride that purrs. Her name is Victoria and her nickname is Koko. Yes, she has a nickname. I only use her full name when she is driving sluggishly and I need her to get the lead out (ha!).
Some of you might think I’m strange, but yes, I routinely name my cars. My car before this one was a black Mazda2, and her name was Buttercup. She was a spitfire. She liked to race sport cars, and win. She liked to take turns real tight, almost obnoxiously so. She was afraid of no one. She wasn’t named after the weed known as buttercup, she was named after the toughest Power Puff Girl. I still miss that car.
My naming of cars goes back to my mother who started the habit. She named her first car Happy. She had many cars over the years, and I can remember a few of their names.
The raspberry red Dodge something-or-other was named Bob, i.e. Bucket of Bolts. Bob didn’t have a long life with Mom. He was a lemon, despite his beautiful raspberry color. Her Toyota Echo was named Sassy, and her final car, a Toyota Corolla, was named Darwin.
Does anyone else name their cars? If you do, let me know their names in the comments!

I had a toyota previa named good egg. nickname: the egg. even got a personalized license plate for that one.
not all of our cars have had names; just a few.

That’s cool. A formal name and a nickname, just like my current car.
Isn’t it funny how we don’t name all of our cars? I wonder why that is.

I drive a Smart Car and her name is Smidgen 2. I usually name my cars close to their Make or Model. I have had Shelby the Sapporo, Paula the Pulsar, Miracle the Miata..to name a few.

I drive a Chevy Sonic. There are 5 gold (colored) rings hanging from my rear view mirror. A cut out of Sonic the Hedgehog on my back window. But I call it Tinzy for short. 😂

I’ve had two cats but I didn’t name the first one. The second one was called Esmeralda, though. I don’t have that car any longer. It was on a lease.
Cute names, though for your cars!

I like Esmeralda, very elegant!

Thanks. The car got that name from a very logical perspective. I miss it, though. It was a very nice car.

I’m sorry you had to part ways with Esmeralda.

Yeah, I miss having a car, but it was also super-expensive and a waste of money.

In some places it doesn’t make much sense to have one.

So true. We only used ours for shopping and going to visit family every 6 weeks or so. Not worth it! But me and the roommate hate that it’s super-expensive today to lease a car in Sweden. We absolutely would again if the prices went down. They were subsidized for years (EV) but the new government removed it.

Why did they remove it? That’s not very nice.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Because they’re idiots 😂. This is the most stupid government we’ve had in years.
Like Trump but with smart idiots.
The climate senator or whatever they’re called in English thinks EV’s don’t matter and instead of helping the climate, they’re removing good choices and adding severely bad ones that promote climate change.

For some reason, your response reminded me of the original Top Gear series. I don’t know if you’re familiar with the show, but there was an episode with campervans, which was one of many that I found hilarious.

You’re welcome, Chris. I wish I could watch the full episodes again, but I don’t have access to them. I don’t know if you remember the ambulance episode, but that one had me and my mother crying laughing.

I decided to name my car Daisy after reading your post. I drive Miss Daisy daily. Should I also name my golf cart?

Probably. You don’t want the golf cart to be jealous of the car’s name

I like those names. Isn’t it interesting how we pick such unusual names for our cars?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yes, and it’s interesting that she sees cars as male. But she says Jax is a gay man because he’s female-friendly. (Subaru) 😂

😂 that’s hilarious. I guess it depends on the make and model of the car? I know my mom had male and female names for hers. I’ve had all female names for mine. And I haven’t named every car. I guess if I had a huge SUV or something I’d probably name it Junior? 🤣 Other than that, I think I will always use female names.

I think she sees all cars as male. But I think that’s pretty unusual. I think most car-namers are like you. They use female names.

I don’t have names for my cars, but we named our Roombas “Fifi” and “Gloria”. By the way, “I only use her full name when she is driving sluggishly and I need her to get the lead out (ha!).” Hilarious! 🤣

Naming your Roombas is incredibly creative and I’m here for that. I love the name FiFi. I might consider that as a car name. 😆

I had a blue car that was named ‘Oceana’ after one of the kids’ Barbie dolls at the time… so I guess that makes it a somewhat paradoxical blue-Barbie-car? Linda x

For some reason, even though I’m big-time into cars, Ive rarely named them.
.
My Miata is called ‘number sixteen’ because od the racing number on its door.
.
My next door neighbor calls my old Subaru the ‘Green Hornet’ because of its colour. Not very creative!

Haha, that’s OK! We don’t all have to name them😊

Well, I guess some of the cars in the family fleet had names over the years. But they were just silly things the kids came up with. I had a small Chevrolet truck and my son called it the “Heavy Chevy” even though it wasn’t very big at all…I guess it was big to a six-year-old.

.
My son’s Subaru is now called “The Bugeye” but that’s a common name for that year / make / model. Still counts, ’cause it looks like a bug. Here she is….

An Audi estate – bought new in the early eighties – named him Larry – never named a car before or since – Larry was from the sixties – he was German – Larry was the name he used because he mixed with a lot of Americans – lived in Berlin – made money doing something shady both sides of the wall –

Every car in my family has names. We have Charlotte (A Porsche that was burned “charred” in a house fire) , Carmen (Sandiago, a Blood Red Jaguar), Xena (The Warrior Princess, a Volvo Wagon), Elizabeth (After the Queen, a white Land Rover)
It’s always fun
