Raw Edible Cookie Dough

What’s your go-to comfort food?

Did you know they have edible cookie dough now? It’s true. There are no eggs in it, which makes it impossible for you to get salmonella. (But I like to live my life on the edge and I still eat raw cookie dough with eggs. I’m a rebel.) Technically, you’d have to eat the equivalent of six whole raw eggs to catch salmonella from cookie dough, and even I don’t have enough room in my stomach for that much dough. The best part of ready to eat cookie dough is you don’t have to make a batch of cookies to get it. You can bake some varieties of the new edible cookie dough, but why waste it?

Before you call me a heathen, I don’t eat it straight out of the package. I put non-fat vanilla Greek yogurt into a bowl with some frozen blueberries and strawberries, and then I had a few tiny circles of cookie dough. I need some kind of reward for eating Greek yogurt. The real inedible character in the story is the Greek yogurt, let’s be honest.

Tiny bite-sized cookie dough pieces, perfect for sweetening up Greek yogurt and making the yogurt palatable

Aside from a few tiny marble-sized cookie dough pieces in my Greek yogurt, I’ve cleaned up my diet in the past several weeks – well…as much as my budget allows. There’s a reason for that, so watch this space.

What is your favorite comfort food?

    1. My mom always told me I couldn’t have more than a little bit because of salmonella. When I was older, I looked up how much cookie dough you’d have to eat for you to catch salmonella and it’s a very large amount. Part of the fun of making cookies is eating some cookie dough, so I will continue to do it.

  1. Such a useful post Amy! The fact that you’d need to eat the equivalent of six raw eggs to get the dreaded “salmonella” bacteria, your Greek yogurt/cookie dough dessert recipe idea, and “You can bake some varieties of the new edible cookie dough” are excellent tips. I will be looking for this at the grocery store. Is it in freezer section?

    1. Thanks Mary. Glad I could help. It is in the refrigerated section. I am not sure where it would be in your store, but in my store it’s near the whip cream.

    1. Well, it’s all edible. The powers that be (and my mother) like to tell you that you shouldn’t eat raw cookie dough if it’s got eggs in it. However, it takes a lot of eggs to catch salmonella. Now the new thing is to exclude the eggs and make it “edible,” I’m sure you can make some kind of craft project out of cookie dough – as long as you really like ants contributing.

      1. I guess most things are edible – as long as you’re prepared for the consequences. I’m sure you could make something out of egg-free cookie dough – but you’d probably want to beat an egg into it first…

      2. Haha. It’s really not that bad. I can’t even taste the difference. Especially since there’s that awful Greek yogurt around it. The cookie dough is saving the day.

  2. well done amy for including the inimitable greek yogurt into the perfectly fine snack of cookie dough. helpful to know the immense amount of dough one would have to eat to reach salmonella levels. i have been snitching a little cookie dough as long as i have beeb making cookies and i expect to continue this very logical practice

    1. I am still going to do that sneaking a bit of cookie dough thing myself. I suppose the egg free version is good for people who are all allergic to eggs or who don’t need the cholesterol. It’s also very handy to have tiny bite-size pieces to put in that nasty yogurt.

  3. 🥰🥰🥰🤘

I’m a total snob when it comes to heathenistic… heathenesk… ???… cave dweller cookie dough consumption. My room mate is a classically trained French artisan baker. So when she makes cookies, we kinda do a small snooty cookie dough hors d’oeuvres plate with different toppings.

I would totally do Greek yogurt with honey, and mango.

    1. I could really get behind a cookie dough hors d’oeuvres plate! That sounds like a genius idea!

I don’t like mango but I do like honey. I have some honey, but since it cost $35,000 a bottle these days (I kid, but not by much), I don’t use it in the yogurt. I feel like it’s wasting the honey. 😂

I cannot acquire a taste for the texture of Greek yogurt. The nonfat is the best I can do, but I have to put cookies dough in it with tons of blueberries. Sometimes granola.

      1. We get our honey locally from the farmer’s market. And yes… NOT CHEAP!

I can always hear my grandmother in my head. Warning me that I will get worms from eating raw cookie dough.

mmmmmmmmmm ❤️ cookie dough, blueberries, & granola. I want them in my face!

      2. Honey is outrageous, isn’t it? I mean, I’m not blaming anyone for that, but it’s pricey.

Haha, I don’t think my mom ever told me I’d get worms from eating too much raw cookie dough, but she may have told me I’d get sick. She let me have a little bit, but then I would always have a little bit more. Brownie batter is also delicious. Cake batter ranks highly. My mom used to let me “lick the bowls” and she kept a little extra in there for me.

I was having kind of a rough afternoon, so I went straight for the cookie dough today no yogurt, no blueberries, and no granola. I will get back to my normal healthy snack tomorrow 😂♥️

      3. TOTALLY! A while back I had done a bit of research on apiary care & beekeeping. Made me leagues more appreciative of the profession. 🥰🥰🥰

        hehehe

My grandma was pretty strict. My mom however! She let me have-at-it with the mixing bowl leftovers. Not cookie dough though. I think my grandma gave her a complex about it. I could eat cake batter out of the pint cup like ice cream. Is that sad? 🤪

…omg… I WAS JUST AT THE STORE and didn’t even get any cookie dough that I was planning on snacking on!

I am very entertained on the fact that I am actually forcefully planning on purposefully being unhealthy. Being an adult does have its perks. 🤘(worms be damned 😉)

I hope your tomorrow is a smooth sailing kind of day.❤️

      4. I’m curious as to why cake batter was OK to eat but not cookie dough 😂

Brownie batter is delicious , highly recommend 😂

Have a great day, too! ♥️

      5. RIGHT?! 😂🤣😂🤣

I agree! Browny batter with chocolate chunks❤️

My roommate schooled me on how to make chocolate cake and brownies more rich. She adds a little bit of fine coffee grounds to the mix.

        🥰🥰🥰
