Back in fifth grade, I stumbled upon a short story related to “Pride and Prejudice,” and little did I know it would lead to my unexpected introduction to Jane Austen’s world. When my sister, the homework inspector, spotted the tale, she handed me not one but two Austen classics – “Pride and Prejudice” and the mysteriously titled “Sense and Sensibility or something.” As much as I longed to escape into the great outdoors for some playtime, my sister had other plans. I found myself reluctantly immersed in the romantic intricacies of Austen’s novels. Now, I can’t help but recall those famous lines: “It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife,” and “I wish, as well as everybody else, to be perfectly happy; but, like everybody else, it must be in my own way.” Ah, the unexpected joys of literary coercion!
