“It’s Amy,” I said.

Write about your first name: its meaning, significance, etymology, etc.

Wow. Easy prompt. OK, bye. See you guys later.

Just kidding.

(“Amie) What you want to do?”

It’s the first thing that comes to my mind when I think about this prompt. Often, I sing my thoughts. I also randomly sing lyrics all day long, and wonder why I can remember obscure things such as song lyrics from 40 years ago, but not where I put a paperclip five minutes prior. But I digress.

The name Amy means “beloved” in Latin. It’s an old name. It also has French origins. The spelling differs greatly, the meaning remains quite the same. The spelling of my name was given to me for a specific purpose: ease of learning how to spell my first name. And it worked. As I’ve gotten older, my handwriting has gotten sloppier, and now I can sign my signature in .3 seconds. It looks like I’ve gone to the school where doctors learn how to sign their signatures.

Researching this topic, I found what are apparently the top 20 songs with the name Amy in them. I find this claim a bit dubious. I only know two of these songs, and the song that I know quite well doesn’t appear on the list.

Maybe some of you have heard of the song by Pure Prairie League called “Amie.” It’s not heard on the radio very often, but sometimes it airs in the grocery store, and I start dancing and singing and proclaiming, “This is my jam!” in the middle of aisle six.

Amie

I can see why you think you belong to me
I never tried to make you think, or let you see one thing for yourself
But now you’re off with someone else and I’m alone
You see I thought that I might keep you for my own

Amie what you want to do?
I think I could stay with you
For a while, maybe longer if I do

Don’t you think the time is right for us to find
All the things we thought weren’t proper could be right in time
And can you see
Which way we should turn together or alone
I can never see what’s right or what is wrong
(will it take to long to see)

Amie what you want to do?
I think I could stay with you
For a while, maybe longer if I do

Well now
Amie what you want to do?
I think I could stay with you
For a while, maybe longer if I do

Now it’s come to what you want you’ve had your way
And all the things you thought before just faded into gray
And can you see
That I don’t know if it’s you or if it’s me
If it’s one of us I’m sure we’ll both will see
Won’t you look at me and tell me

Amie what you want to do?
I think I could stay with you
For a while, maybe longer
Longer if I do

Yeah now
Amie what you want to do?
I think I could stay with you
For a while, maybe longer if I do

Fallin’ in and out of love with you
Fallin’ in and out of love with you
Don’t know what I’m gonna do, I’d keep
Fallin’ in and out of love
With you

And here is the list of the top 20 songs with the name Amy in them. Admittedly, “Amy, Amy, Amy,” by Amy Winehouse is also my jam, but this song is never heard on the radio, so my interpretive dance, and quality* singing are relegated to the confines of my home. Which is a good thing for society.

(*quality is in the eye of the off–key beholder)

I have not listened to all of these songs. Anyone who listens to them, please leave in the comments your favorite. Or if you’ve even heard of any of these songs, please let me know. If you know the song by Pure Prairie League, let me know if you like it or not.

I wish everyone a beloved day.

    1. This is something people can identify with, I think. I’d rather not talk about myself, so I thought I would talk about music. Twenty different songs is in fact amazing. And those are only the top twenty – apparently there are more? Thanks for your comment!

    1. Thank you. Little Women is a classic tale. The 2019 film version of the novel is one of my favorite films. It was on yesterday, in fact. I was annoyed because I had missed all but 10 minutes of it.

      1. I don’t know what your TV situation is where you live, but this movie is kind of on heavy rotation on the cable channel Starz. I highly recommend the 2019 version of this film. I can’t say the same for any of the other film versions – at least in my opinion. There are many to choose from.

  1. The only one of those songs I know is the Pure Prairie League. No clue on the others lol
Side note: I love your absolute disdain for some of these prompts and the fact that you turn some of them right on their ear 😄

    1. You can’t go wrong with Pure Prairie League. I sure give it my best in aisle six. Lol

Ha, yeah, some of these prompts… I kind of take it as a personal challenge now. It’s like a dance-off between me and WordPress. 😆

      1. I think aisle 6 is the soda aisle here. I don’t know, I don’t pay attention lol

I mean, in a way they serve their purpose then. It’s prompting you to be creative, so that works, eh? 😄
Can’t take all of them that seriously myself. Some days it’s a pic and I’m out.

      2. Yep, It’s all about the creativity. You could call a prompt a prod in this case. It achieves the same goal.😄

I say aisle six, but what I mean is the whole store. Lol. The cat litter aisle has the best sound. You can hear the speakers really well there. So if a banger comes on, I’m staying in the cat litter aisle until it concludes. 😊
Don’t blame you for posting pics and then peacing out. Some days are like that.

      3. Cat aisle. Duly noted. I’m usually there frequently enough lol
I’m pissed at one of my local markets though. One side of their overhead system isn’t working properly, so when something good comes on, half the tune is missing. “Runnin’ With the Devil” without Eddie’s solo is just wrong 😄

Some days a pic just says more than I ever could lol

      4. See, if the speaker system isn’t working correctly in the grocery store, I would be up at the customer service desk complaining. For me, if I can’t hear Michael Jackson in full surround-sound – in as much surround-sound as you can get from a Muzak system, of course – I’m just not having the appropriate grocery store experience. 😁 and for the $1000 that I pay for five items, I need to hear the music. Lol

      5. You speak truth! The cost of groceries is out of freaking control. And then they want me to use self-checkout? Nah, not happening.
I’ll wait in line out of sheer principle now.
My store probably won’t fix the sound system. They just spent all the money on harsh, garish lighting. 🙄

      6. I refuse to use self check out. At my store it isn’t even an option, anyway. Yeah what’s up with that harsh lighting? They changed it in my store a few months ago. I have to wear a brimmed hat and sunglasses inside the store so it doesn’t trigger a migraine. Can’t stand the lighting.

      7. Yeah, screw that. I pay enough already. I’m not saving them labor too. I don’t care if it’s 10 people deep. I’ll stay there out of sheer stubbornness lol
Everyone is going to that damned LED lighting now. It freaking sucks.

      8. Lol!
I do hate that lighting. I understand it saves energy and I’m all for that, but it’s not natural lighting and it’s really bad for people with migraines or seizures. Not to mention, it’s blinding when you’re trying to drive at night.

      9. It’s bad for people who don’t have migraines and seizures too, I swear. I walk out all kinds of blind and disoriented
But, it’s all about the bottom line, so we, the customer and consumer, can kindly go screw lol

      10. I have a couple posted on things I put on Medium with some writings, but this is my main hangout. I’m not big on traveling all over the www. I can barely keep up here LOL

    1. Name twins. 🙂 Not sure which is older – they are both seen in Hebrew, and both found in the Bible (Ami). Both really ancient names, it seems. It’s fitting, because I feel ancient this Monday morning. Have a beloved day. 😄
