What is everybody’s opinion on this? Do you have a contact form on your blog? If so, do you find it useful?
If you don’t have one, what are the reasons?
There are also email contact options, but I think that would generate a lot of spam and I can’t use my landline to divert it.

I do not have one at this time, but I am also curious to see what the general opinion is.

I think it requires a plug-in, unless it’s built from HTML, which is not my thing. But yeah, I am curious.

Same here and not sure on the build specs either lol

HTML? It’s Greek to me. Lol

I am taking a bit of it in my current night courses, but I’m no expert by any means 🤓

I can’t grasp it. It looks like =#<ghibdhsk> to me. 🤪

They make it seem really simple in the course, but I tend to lean towards otherwise lol

Yeah, I would need the slower paced course for pre-beginners lol. Also, Cliff Notes and a tutor😂

The stuff they had me doing was very, very basic. The deeper it goes, the more help I’ll need lol

Maybe you can get a tutor. They will be probably 15 years old. Lol

As long as the kid knows what they’re doing I don’t rightly care 😄

Update: it seems like the general opinion is that the contact form isn’t really useful, but people are interested in having some type of email set up. Rob helped me figure out where on the page the email is that I set up. The answer to that is it is not on the page. I have tried several times, but to no avail. However, Rob informs me that when he presses my avatar, my email address shows up. So that’s weird, but if you want to set yours up, it will show up in your avatar. 🤷♀️

Ok, good to know. Won’t bother with the contact form then lol
I’ll consider the email option and hit you or Rob up if I need an assist 😄
Thanks for the update!

I didn’t add one because I didn’t think anyone would use it. Maybe I’ll add one when I update my site format. It’s terrible but … I don’t look at it often.

Gotcha. I tend to look at my format quite often. I’ve changed it a few times and ended up with the one I have now. I’m wondering who would use it. People without word press accounts?

Maybe. Some people respond to my posts via WordPress that don’t appear to have a blog. I’m not certain how that works.

I don’t think it’s too difficult. I think you can sign up for a WordPress account and not even set up a blog. A close, personal real-world friend of mine who follows my blog has this set up.

Interesting. I didn’t realize that. Thanks, Rob.

I have one – on both blogs. No one has ever used them. I tested just to verify they work when I set them up. Otherwise, they are just “there”.

Thanks, David. Interesting. I wonder if people would be more likely to use contact by email?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Maybe? The form basically just sends me an email. I’m just *not* posting my email out there for every phishing bot to grab and spam.
LikeLiked by 1 person
No, I would never put my personal email address out there, either. There’s an option to create a free one using the website name. It just forwards to your actual email. The caveat is that if you respond, your response comes from your personal email.

Yeah, I even set up a separate “blogger name” email address, to keep it separate from my personal account(s). So that’s where the contact form goes. I‘ve had the random occasion to use it otherwise, but mostly it sits idle.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Hmm. OK, so people aren’t using the email, either. I’m beginning to think a contact form of any type is not useful on this platform.

There’s always the chance someone may want to reach out in person. I’ve contacted a couple of bloggers, using their contact form. It *can* be useful.

Oh that’s a good idea. If you want to contact fellow bloggers, that’s an option.

Yeah…someone might want to contact you for legit advice or assistance…

That’s true. I think from what I’m reading here, the easiest option is to set up an email and have it forward to an email you set up specifically to receive those queries or comments. By easiest, I mean not having to have a plug-in to create a contact form.

Where would you post your email, if you create one just for the blog?
LikeLiked by 1 person
I’m not sure where it pops up. On the dashboard menu is listed email. If you click on that, you can pay for an email or you can forward messages to your own email for free. It does not say where the email button appears, or if you control where you put it, so if anyone knows that, please chime in.

I’m intrigued. Might be worth doing away with the contact form
LikeLiked by 1 person
It might be. Rob says that he uses a Gmail account just for the blog. That’s a good idea. I guess you’d have to play around with that email option to see if you can control where to put it or if it just shows up someplace random on the blog.

Yeah I also use a Gmail address. But currently through the contact links

Hmmm… well it seems that you could just use that Gmail address as your email contact instead of using your contact form. Probably not too difficult to change

Worth a shot! I’ll see if I can figure that out.

I created a blog related email address through Gmail. I just have mine as rebuildingrob@gmail.com I don’t believe I actually put my real first and last name on it. That might save you from responses originating from your personal email address.
Do you like how I just slapped that email address in here for a plug?

I do like that. It was very subtle. Maybe you’ll get 14,000 emails now. Haha. Seriously, good idea.

Rob, I created an email for my blog, and added it. But where is it on the blog? Do you have to add it to a page, or does it already appear somewhere? Can’t figure it out.
LikeLiked by 1 person
I think you add it in on your WordPress profile, your contact information. And if someone were to click on your avatar, I think they have the option to email you. It would then send it to that address.

If you’re on the mobile app, click on me. Then going into account settings. There, you should be able to change your email address for the blog.
Likewise, if you’re doing it from my computer, click on your avatar. That should take you to your profile, and you can update your contact info there.
But as far as putting your email address on your page, I think he probably would need to add the “contact info“ block, or one of the form blocks and list your email there.
Let me know if that helps…

Thanks for your diligence, Rob. I really appreciate it. I didn’t know there was a contact info block. I tried adding a new page, calling contact me, linking my email, but when I clicked on the email, it says “oops something went wrong”. I’ll have to take a deep dive. I will let you know if it works. Thanks again.

If you fill in the contact block, you can add that to any of your posts. That might be an option.

When I put my email address in the contact block, it’s bringing up my primary email address, wanting to send to the email address that I put in the block. This is wacky.
LikeLiked by 1 person
That might be normal. I don’t know a whole lot about the email applications and email forwarding and what not. I’m not terribly text savvy on that.
It sounds like if you put the block on one of your posts, and someone goes to send you an email, it will go to the one that you chose to put in.
As of right now, I do know that when I click on your avatar, I get the email, amy@itsamyisaid.com
Maybe contact word press tech support about it?

Thanks, Rob. At least if you click on the avatar, the email is there. I will mess with the pudding a block on one of my posts tomorrow. I’ve just found out my novel which was listed on My menu is not there anymore. So that’s a different problem for tomorrow. Thanks for all your help!

I’m going to create a post about how the novel came about, and link to the Pages where it’s available. WordPress is really pressing my nerves this evening. Lol I figured that’s the easiest way to do it.

I have one but no spam yet.
I do get loads of spam in my comments and I have really no idea if some of them are real or not.
There are a few comments who seem to forget who I am and they write the same or basically the same comment all over again.
I guess that means spam or people are just forgetting who I am? 😂
There are a lot of blogs to find and read in the WordPress reader so both make sense.

Btw, for some strange reason I’m gettin an email for every reply of a comment that you write. It just started happening even though I did not ask for it and nothing is there in the settings.
Very weird behavior from WordPress…

I thought about adding a form to my blog; but to be honest, I don’t think I get enough traffic to really warrant one. I don’t think anybody would actually fill it out.

Makes sense. It seems like the consensus is that most people don’t use them, but they are useful for contacting fellow bloggers, perhaps.

I can count on one hand how many contacts I have had through the form. When I pastored my last church, someone who disagreed with me biblically sent a long email telling me how wrong I am and asked I get into a fight with him via email. Sharing the gospel is far more important than arguing with someone who is militant about his error.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Oh no! That is a horrible interaction, and one that definitely goes against making the email option available. I’m sorry you experienced that, Matthew. Appreciate that you’ve shared how many contacts you’ve had through the form. It seems the form isn’t very popular. I sure hope that doesn’t happen to you again.

The effectiveness of a contact form depends on how well it aligns with the blog’s goals and the preferences of both the blogger and the audience.
