Facebook reminded me yesterday of a thing that I did in 2018. I was driving to work at about five in the morning. At the time I was working 30 miles away, and had to be there by 6:30. I had to be very careful because it was still very dark and deer are prevalent. I would also see fox, but the deer are by far the most prevalent. They can do the most damage to themselves as well as to humans. It breaks my heart when I see deer deceased on the side of the road. I can’t even look. I can’t look at any animals that are deceased on the side of the road. I believe this stems from the time I saw my dog get hit by a car and killed twenty feet away from me, when I was about five. So now, whenever I can save an animal life, I will. Even a fly – and I despise flies. Even more, I despise their children. But back to the story at hand. In 2018 on a cold February morning, I encountered the following:

I’m surprised she got up slowly. I’d think she’d have bolted the second you pulled near and spoke. Either way, good on you. This is why you are protector of all animals in the realm. 😊

Nope, it was a pretty magical moment. I drive really slowly on that road because it is a small, two-lane road with woods on either side. Deer often cross so it’s best to go slowly. I have no idea why this deer did not get up more quickly, but it was definitely one of the more memorable interactions I’ve had with any animal or person. I guess I must truly be the protector of all animals in the realm. 😊

She completely chill. She had her arms tucked under her all comfy, and she looked at me with wide eyes. So I told her she needed to get out of the road. And she lumbered up on her front legs, then the back legs. Seemed to know what I meant but she was very comfortable.
What was more strange was that there were no other cars, because that road sees a lot of traffic even that early in the morning. As I said it was magical.✨

Maybe. I do feel as though I may have helped avert tragedy. Things like this happen to me a lot, although not quite this unusual. 😊

That’s awesome! I just saw a video on TikTok about a person who saved the baby deer from their pool. And then, the deer would keep coming back into the yard, getting food, and even chasing the dog!
