Air, Water, Food

Daily writing prompt
What are three objects you couldn’t live without?

It’s possible to live without any objects. Material items are not necessary to life. Air, water, and food are absolutely essential to maintain life. Shelter is also essential to keep us from the extremes of hot, cold, and the various forms of precipitation.

Clothing is also pretty important for survival. As is healthcare, which is denied to many. Those of us who are privileged enough to have healthcare undoubtedly survive longer than those without.

They say you shouldn’t, that it’s not good for you, but you can live without human interaction. I don’t think you should either, but it is possible to survive without it.

I suppose I could survive without my migraine medications, but I wouldn’t want to, to be honest. It would not be a life of quality nor quantity. I am grateful every day for advances in science, and for the privilege to not be denied them.

I’m taking this prompt literally, which isn’t usually my style. I like to answer with a quip or a heartfelt response. But today I feel that to answer with anything other than the basic necessities to survive feels bougie to me. It feels disingenuous, flippant to the people who can’t have these things for whatever reason. Today I will just say that I am grateful for all that I have. I do not take them for granted.

  1. Absolutely, now a days we have been engrossed that much in accessories of fluent and comfortable life, we just ignore the paramount nature of basic necessities of life as they are too easily available

    1. Yes, that is true for most of us. I felt like I needed to acknowledge the privilege of having basic needs met, because some (many) people don’t have that, as you mentioned in your response to this prompt. It’s a lopsided division of resources.

  2. This is funny, because normally I go through an explain each of the three things I list on these types of prompts. Whereas you usually list them, albeit in a witty, humorous way, and basically drop the mic. This time, I tried to follow your lead! 😝

  3. Absolutely, it’s important to acknowledge our privileges and be grateful for the basic necessities that many may not have access to. It’s a reminder to appreciate what we have and strive towards ensuring everyone has access to those essentials for a better quality of life.

  4. I always appreciate how you respond to prompts, whether in a funny or serious manner. You always find the right things to say. Air, water, and food are essential, yet we continue to harm the environment, causing irreversible damage to these three. Not to mention the numerous countries lacking safe sources of food and water, and dealing with severe air contamination. Well done, Amy.
