The Return

Amy

The clematis are growing

Reaching tall with their vines

That curl like fingers

Gently Entwined

They wait for your return

As do I

    1. Thanks Edward. I’m eagerly awaiting my hummingbird friend. Kevin‘s art reminded me that it’s almost time. The clematis are growing tall so quickly I’ve already had to tie them to the trellis in two sections.

      1. Cool. I’m still learning all this flower stuff, so reading posts about the different types of flowers is helping me a lot. We moved to this house a year ago, and one of my projects is to build a garden.

      2. That sounds like a great project. I’ll try to take photos of my flowers as they come up. The peonies are already fairly high and caged because they tend to fall over with the weight of the huge blossoms. Perennials are really cool because they come up every year and you really don’t have to do any work.

        If you want to attract particular creatures, you plant particular flowers, and in the case of clematis: vines. The hummingbird nested in the clematis near my porch, but they love red and pink zinnia for food sources. zinnia do best facing southwest. These are a few of the things that I have learned over the past few years, and also stuff my mom told me over many years.

    1. It’s just about hummingbirds. In an earlier post, I wrote about finding a hummingbird nest in my clematis this past fall, and that’s really the point of the poem. But I think anything is open to interpretation. I know what I meant when I wrote it, but the reader can interpret any way that they want. That’s kind of what makes it fun. 😊
