* in the film Chocolat, Johnny Depp’s character’s favorite chocolate is hot chocolate. But that is a film, and although hot chocolate is delicious, it is not my favorite, and it is not candy. Give me a high-quality 70% or higher dark chocolate, and I am a happy girl. Nothing against Hershey’s, but Special Dark is not special. There’s too much sugar, and it is not smooth. Belgian chocolate is the absolute best.

And as a reminder, cacao pods grow from the trunk of the Theobroma cacao tree, and cocoa comes from the seed inside the pod. Seems that no one can agree if it’s a fruit, vegetable or a nut. Just remember this: it is health food.

Two songs came to mind while I was thinking of a response to this prompt. One was Candy Girl by New Edition – a the happy little bop that I know by heart.

The second song was Under the Milky Way by The Church. This is one of my favorite songs, and it has been since it was released. I am not sure why, but I can get lost in the smoothness of that song. See what I did there? Smoothness? Milky Way?

  1. Dark chocolate is the healthiest! I nearly called my poem ‘Candy Berry’ until I discovered it was the name of some fish bait! Comes in a tin with tempting looking pink sweetmeats pictured on the lid!

  2. Oh, I love chocolate too, especially the dark kind. That movie is also awesome. I used to watch it all the time when I was younger.

    I don’t know what my favorite candy is, there’s so many to choose from. It’s chocolate one day and something sweet another.

    Not to mention salty licorice! I’m Swedish, so salty licorice is kind of a big deal here.

    1. Dark chocolate, as well as the movie Chocolat – totally awesome. I’m not much of a sweet person other than chocolate. I didn’t know licorice was a big deal in Sweden. I actually do not like licorice and I think I’m the only person in my family who doesn’t. 😊

      3. It’s either very salty or very sweet black licorice. It could be found as a powder, usually very salty then or in small soft candies shaped in all kinds. It can also be hard candies, called turkish pepper. You’ve probably seen that at the airport sometime.

        You can also find it as “traditional” licorice like in the U.S where it’s shaped like long strings. There are so many kinds to choose from.

        Licorice as it is found in the U.S is called something else in our country. A direct translation would be straps and they’re usually very sweet with all different kinds of tastes. Everything from strawberry to pineapple.

    1. thanks. I couldn’t let that film reference go. Excellent. glad to have another dark chocolate girl amongst us. Hershey kisses me my face break out. But they’ll do in a pinch for sure. Then I’ll be pinching pimples.😅

      1. I’m not sure. It’s a little melancholy, but also monotone, too. It doesn’t really stand out, but I’ve always just liked it. It’s one of those songs that when it comes on, I say to myself, “alright…”

    1. I used to steal all of the special dark out of the bag first. but back then they only put three in there, so it really wasn’t much of a theft. But then I had *better* dark chocolate, and I realized what trash special dark actually is. 😆

    1. It’s OK, if you like it, you like it. It is candy.😊 it’s the cocoa butter out of the chocolate, so technically, maybe it’s not chocolate? But it’s still candy.😊
