Going To Bed Early

What do you love now, that you hated when you were younger?

This prompt pretty much answers itself.

Yep…

  1. The written word is something I’ve come to truly appreciate. Growing up, everything was written on pen and paper. Computers were just coming into prominence, and there were cpu classes where we learned, but most everything was written by hand. I liked the brief periods we were allowed to type things out and learn the cpu and didn’t care to intentionally write out my thoughts, sometimes experiencing physical strain in hand cramps during essay writing.

Now, in a world where practically all writing occurs on computers, I have come to love the very thing I thought I loathed. Writing. Truly writing. Don’t get me wrong, I still do plenty of writing on the computer, but when I do write with pen and paper I find myself in a serene state. What I write is influenced by how I write it. Not to take away from computers it’s just a different method; different ways to similar and/or different ends.

As an adult I have come to love this. I still use both forms of writing, but I save pen and paper for when I am at my most intentional; writing notes of appreciation for my wife, journaling, grocery lists even. Adulthood is a whole other world, immune from the innocence that ignorance in childhood provides. My love and appreciation for this world has grown with my awareness of its complexity, and writing is my way of understanding it.
