Which outdated technology do you miss the most, and why?
Don’t get me wrong, technology is useful and important. However. I don’t think it needs to be at everyone’s fingertips twenty four hours a day. It’s too much. I’m glad I grew up in a time where we didn’t have cell phones. We played outside and we used our imaginations. I’m not saying we didn’t have video games or computers because we did, but this age of everything at your fingertips is technology overload. Constant social media interaction can be destructive. And, perhaps most importantly, technology is amazing when it’s working correctly, but when it’s not? See below.

I’m entirely guilty of impatience if tech is slow, when I’m working especially. It’s like I feel it’s changed the world so much that how dare it not be perfect.

Right? Especially when it cuts into productivity time at work, which it likes to do, especially on Mondays.

Precisely. There’ve just been too many trade-offs not to be irritated by interruptions of flow.

Yep…agreed…I’ve put my watch away except for workouts now because I don’t want the constant buzz and vibration rocking me out of a cool headspace…

I had to turn off the notifications on my watch. Or else I was going to have to take off the watch completely. I am debating that. I mean, there was a time when we didn’t need to wear watches on our arms to tell us how to be humans. Sometimes the technology has dumbed us down and made us too reliant on a device. Like, we don’t know how to check in with ourselves anymore to see how we’re feeling?

the most useful function lately is as a morning vibration alarm so I don’t have to wake my wife in the morning when go to the gym…but gosh, that’s a pretty expensive alarm clock….

I love my tech! I’m blind, so I get AI to describe pictures to me, I use my Alexa to read audio books, I use an I Phone, love my IPhone. Xx

This is such a good point. My father-in-law was blind for the last few years of his life. He died before AI and all of the latest technology, but they would’ve enhanced his life so much.

Sometimes it’s a good thing, but it does depend on one’s needs. Getting tech neck from staring at your phone all day isn’t the same as someone who needs it for medical reasons or to improve their daily life. 😊

That’s great, Carol Anne! I don’t think excess tech applies to the blind population, so thanks for pointing that out. 😊 I think people with sight may use technology to an excess sometimes. For people with different needs than the typical mainstream population glued to their phones 24/7, the advancements are for sure useful. 😊
