What’s the most annoying trope in books or movies?
I can’t stand this word. It’s overused, much like iconic, and they are both used frivolously and, in my opinion, not as intended. Seeing a word used repeatedly dulls its shine. Trope usage should not be common place, and iconic is only iconic if we stop using iconic so much. Internet culture strikes again.
As for answering the prompt, I can’t get past the word to answer it. The word itself has become a trope.
Ugh.

I’ll grant you that “trope“ is overused. Unfortunately, it’s overused because it means so many things that we call tropes are so grossly overused as well.
“Iconic” is definitely overused as well.
Another one that’s over used is G. O. A. T. – the acronym for “the greatest of all time“

Precisely. Not everything is a trope. But since the word is so frequently used for things that it shouldn’t be applied to, the word itself is a trope. The things that are happening to the English language…😫
Ah, yes, GOAT. This word is overused because everyone thinks that everyone else is “goated.” The problem is, no one is the greatest of all time if everyone is the greatest of all time. It doesn’t work like that.
